The chicken fence that my brother and I used 15 years ago was too far gone to be resurrected, so I had to put on my carpenter hat and construct a new one. I am pretty handy but carpentry is not something I have a lot of experience in so I enlisted the knowledge and experience of my father-in-law, Merle Ayres, to give me a hand. Thanks to Merle who built a jig that we could use to quickly construct the fence panels (basically a mixture of old and new 1x2's and 2x2's that were laying around the farm or stripped from other pieces of lumber) and 1 inch chicken wire at 48" high, we were able to get the fence knocked out pretty quick. Hinges along with well placed metal fence posts allowed for easy assembly and positioning. Probably the biggest time-saver was Merle's purchase of a pneumatic staple gun that made attaching the wire to the wood panels a snap.
